The new kit from Scalescenes has been released. It’s the R011b Humped Bridge. It’s not just one kit, but it’s actually several rolled into one.
The versions available are:-
Single Arch with Single or Double Roadway
Double Arch with Single or Double Roadway.
The Double Arch version comes with the option of Setrack or Finescale height.
So it should fit into a multitude of scenes and situations.
As with all of the Scalescenes kits, it’s a very study and robustly built kit.
I have decided to build the Double Arch Single Road, finescale height first.
Here we go.
Firstly decide and familiarise yourself with the version you are making. The cut lines are clearly marked and easy to understand. But it pays to check twice and cut once in my opinion.
Now, cut out the Buttress Base layers and Cover layers. Fold on the blue dashed lines of the cover layers and glue the base layers into the centre of the cover layer. Only glue the flap marked A at this stage. It will become apparent later why.
Next, carefully cut out one of the Arches and use a coloured marker to hide the raw edges.
Cut out the two Abutment A next and squarely glue them into place. Make sure to glue the abutment A to the leading edge of the arch.
Next, cut out and fit into place the two Abutment B pieces. Making sure they are square.
Cut out the second arch next and squarely glue it into place. Set aside for the glue to dry.
While the glue drying, cut out the Soffit Cover layer. Run a marker along the raw edges. Then carefully fit and glue into place. Make sure that the edges are fit tight under the arch and the flaps at the back are secured into place.
Next, cut out the Arch Soffit base layer and lightly score the red lines. Careful not go all the way through. Gently curve the soffit layer into shape. Then test fit and glue into place over the Soffit cover layer.
Cut out the Deck Support next. Then using the light blue guide lines, glue it into place down the centre.
Next, cut out the Deck Base layer and gently score the red lines. The introduce a slight curve. Test fit but do not glue into place.
Cut out the Deck Edges A and B next, then wrap and glue them into place. Then glue the deck into place.
Next, cut out the Deck cover layer and glue into place.
Cut out the Buttress Tops next, and glue into place.
Next, carefully cut out the Quoins left and right. Colour the edges and glue them into place.
Test fit and glue the Buttresses sections into place next. Then wrap around and glue the remaining flaps.
Next, cut out all of the Parapet Walls A and B. Sandwich two A’s over one B and glue together. Apply weight and set aside to dry.
While the glue drys on the walls, cut out the Parapet Wall Coping 1 and 2 base layers. Glue coping 1 down the centre of coping 2. Set aside to dry.
Next cut out the Coping cover layers and wrap around the base layers.
Next, cut out all of the Buttress Caping base and cover layers. Wrap the cover layers around the base layers and glue on top of the buttresses.
Checking the cut lines you’re using, cut out Approach Walls A and B sections. Glue these back to back, then set aside under weight to dry. Once dry, fit these into place.
Next, cut out and glue together the Approach Supports. Then glue them into place.
Cut out the Approach Deck base layers next, then wrap and glue the edges into place. Glue the completed deck into place.
Flip the bridge over and glue the Approach Deck support into place. The cut out and glue into place the approach Deck into place.
Next, cut out and glue into four sets of two, the Approach Parapet Walls. Cut out the corresponding cover layers and wrap them around the base layers. Glue the completed walls into place.
Cut out the Approach Parapet Wall coping base and cover layers next, and as before, glue 1 on top of 2 and wrap cover layers tightly around. Then glue into place.
And that’s it. It’s as simple as that. This kit is so simple and adaptable, it will fit in numerous locations and settings.
I might have built the Single Arch, Double Road version as well. Here’s some pictures of them together for comparison.
Until Next Time…………
